Peter Holden Architects was formed in 1990, and was incorporated in 1995. The practice changed its trading name to Acanthus Holden Architects in 1998. Peter Holden, Managing Director, qualified from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in 1980. Since then he has practised in and around West Wales specialising in Conservation, the creative re-use of old buildings and the design of new in sensitive settings. He is a board member of the AABC (Architects Accredited in Building Conservation) and since 2003 has been accepted as a member of the Association of Project Managers. Linda Jones, Director, qualified from the Welsh School of Architecture in 1989. She is Welsh speaking and is responsible for the planning and community development elements of the practices workload. Besides being a chartered architect she also has a MA in Town & Country Planning and a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute. The Practice maintains an architectural and planning staff of between 9 and 10 and uses Apple-Mac and P.C. hardware and software packages. Acanthus Holden is well known throughout West Wales as Regional Architects in general practice with a commitment to the conservation and creative reuse of redundant buildings and the environment they depend on. The Practice also enjoys a good reputation for the sensitive design of new buildings, paying high regard to the context and environment in which they sit. Adam and Frances Voelcker - CHARTERED ARCHITECTS - We are a small husband-and-wife practice working in Gwynedd, North Wales. We came here in 1979 to work with another architect and established our own practice in 1982. Our main interest is historic buildings and most of our work involves repairing, extending and converting existing buildings of character. Many of our jobs are within the Snowdonia National Park and require sensitive handling of form and materials as well as an understanding of local planning legislation. We have designed a number of doctors’ surgeries in the area, both extensions and newbuild, and have developed an understanding of how doctors and their buildings work, as well as how surgery projects are financed. Recently, we have been involved with projects funded by the Lottery. One of these, extending Criccieth Memorial Hall, received one of the largest Arts Council grants awarded in North Wales. Other schemes include a number of churches which were successful in obtaining funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund. We try to design with the environment and sustainability in mind, and we like to work with clients who are sympathetic to this aim (see Green Building). In addition to our work as architects, Frances was a nominated member of the Snowdonia National Park Authority from 1992 to 2001, is Secretary to Cyfeillion Cadw Tremadog, a local Building Preservation Trust, and has been Chair of the Association of Preservation Trusts in Wales. Adam is a member of the Bangor Diocesan Advisory Committee for the Care of Churches and also a member of the Victorian Society Northern and Wales Buildings Committee
